I’ve been canning (or “putting up,” as the quaint term goes) a lot these days. I’ve done several jars of refrigerator pickles, some dill and garlic dill, sweet pickle chips, pickled jalapenos, and two types of tomatoes. I’ve been trying to keep the San Marzano Roma type separate from the mixed garden varieties of tomatoes to see if there is a noticable difference when we use them this year. It’s a bit of work, yes, especially since I’ve been doing maybe half a dozen jars a day, but it will pay off this winter when we are using all that good stuff!
The nights are getting colder. If it wasn’t noticable because I’ve had to pull the down comforter up on a few, I would know by the look of the basil plants on the porch. Basil does not like cool weather, and it is starting to look a bit pale. Some of the tomato plants are beginning to look a bit worse for wear, as well. We are slowly winding down to the end of the gardening season, I am afraid.
I will need to do some different planning this winter for the garden. If we continue with the CSA we bought this year, I will need to adjust some of what I plant. It was a very good CSA, with things we use and we were very happy. I just want to avoid planting things we got a lot of from that, and concentrate more on the things we don’t. Always tomatoes, of course. Not only is it nice to pick a fresh, ripe tomato for eating right out there in the yard, but I can always use the extras for canning. And peppers, since we do like a variety of hot peppers. I’m going to turn one whole section of the raised beds to asparagus. It is only half now. So we will see how the plan works out over the winter.
On a completely different front, I had been trying out the Chrome app Scriptito for writing. It was a nice little app, at first. I liked the way it worked. I used it for the expansion of my novelette to novel length. It let me add all the chapter outlines in one place, and they were readily available for review. And it was pretty much out of the way when I was actually writing. So, what happened? Well, last week, on Thursday, I believe, I tried to log in to my account, and got an error page. That had happened once before, and waiting a bit was all that was needed. As of this morning, I still cannot get into my account. That just annoys me. I did decide about a week or so ago that I should copy the chapters I had written to files and save them in another location, just in case. Precognition? Perhaps. Of course, the night before the thing disappeared, I did not copy out that day’s work. So I lost about a chapter and a half. Better than ten, but a disappointment. I did email their support address, twice, and have gotten no response so far. It seems it will still allow you to create an account, but I would advise against it. Oh, well, at least I had the foresight to back up most of the work. Remember- back up all your work! Often!

I’m sorry to reply to this so late, but did the Scriptito problem ever resolve for you? I’m currently facing the same problem and I’m debating whether to wait a bit or redo the work lost immediately… this is so frustrating!

Yes. Eventually it did fix. But there was never any explanation or reason that I saw. It made me worry, so I have stopped using it. I hope it clears for you.

Thank you so much for your quick answer! Now I have at least a little bit of hope back that eventually I’ll be able to log back in (because of course, my backup is longer ago). I’d just like to log in one more time to save my stuff and refrain from using it after that. Do you happen to remember how long it took approximately until it worked again?

I don’t. Probably not as long as I imagine it did, but longer than it should have. (Like everything!) I hope it comes back quickly and you can get your stuff back. I think the thing that worried me the most was the lack of response from their customer service link. That was kinda scary!

Yes, that’s exactly what’s worrying me as well – I can manage a week or two without access to my notes, but I’d just like to know why this happens and if I’ll be able to log back in again at all. I messaged the support as well, but there’s been no response at all (which is why I’ve been searching the internet for anyone with the same problem because it worried me so much). I’ll definitely look for an alternative to Scriptito because whatever happens I won’t be able to use it without worries. Been writing a novel on scriptito. I usually back up once a day if I’ve written anything significant. I wonder if the platform is being sold or is shutting down? I may have lost a few words, not sure? A hundred words or so at most.
I’m annoyed at the time I’ve consumed moving that backup data to a different program.
You can’t trust anyone. I backup to cloud, hard drive, laptop, thumb drive. I emailed a file to myself. Perhaps I should burn a dvd or cd.
Am I careful enough? Probably not. I lost years of work in a house fire back in 1998. It’s better to have an extra copy somewhere other than in your own home.

I was using scriptito as well but unfortunately have one project that exists solely on that platform (not my wisest move thus far). I too have emailed them but no repsonse. I’m a little angsty now as there was quite a lot of work there. What to do what to do…

I am sooo frustrated with Scriptito!! I hadn’t used it for months, but just last week, I revisited it to help me draft some chapter outlines…and now the entire website is down and I can’t access what I wrote X(

And been down for days from my experience. I am so glad I decided to copy the files to my computer and Google Drive, so I only lost a little. If I’d lost ten chapters, I’d be really upset. What bothers me more is that I get no replies to emails to their support address. Not cool.
