My rating: 5 of 5 stars
“Fun with Murder” is the sixth installment in Lucy Carol’s mystery/romance/comedy Madison Cruz Mystery series. The stories revolve around Madison Cruz, aspiring actress, and her often whacky entourage that includes her mother, and ex-FBI agent, her grandmother, who was a Russian spy, her boyfriend, who is heir to a fortune he wants nothing to do with, and various friends who range from an ex-strongwoman to the owner of a theatrical rental agency that is part-warehouse and part museum. And Madison herself seems to attract the most crazy mysteries.
In this one, Madison is talked into running a dinner theater that is in danger of shutting down. Along with the almost-failing business, she gets to try to handle a cast full of egos and varying levels of talent. Her mother, retired from the FBI and running her own PI agency, wants Madison to come work with her and Madison’s grandmother. Madison doesn’t want to give up her dream of an acting career nor does she want to disappoint her mother, so she tries to do both, with the expected results. Until the dead body turns up at the theater, and the clues start to point to the case Mom is working on. The reviews are in, and it seems someone is having too much Fun with Murder.
I have loved these books since the first one. I don’t usually read romance, but these are just so darn much fun! Madison and the crazy group surrounding her are like a whole cast of your zaniest friend on steroids. The mysteries are perhaps not the deepest or most intricate, but they hold up well given the overall tone of the stories. The romance part is there, but it’s not the main focus and isn’t overly explicit. Did I mention they are fun to read? Because they are. They are also fairly quick to read and will make you LOL more than once.
If you like a nice light mystery with a lot of laughs and a good sprinkling of romance, Madison Cruz is your girl.
My latest book is a collection of very short stories, half science fiction and half fantasy, called “Crossed Wires and Other Very Short Stories”. I have also written a few other short pieces, another collection, two novels, and an urban fantasy series. You can find most of them at Smashwords, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and wherever e-books are sold. A few are also available from Amazon in paperback. My novel, “Circle Unbroken” is also on Kindle Unlimited, if that’s your reading preference. You can find out about all of them here.
There are also some stories you can read here on my site, mostly the yearly Halloween short I write, but there are a few others. You can read them from here
