Goings On

The backyard landscape work is done. It turned out really nice. All the grills and such fit on the patio area, and the firepit is lovely. We’ve been enjoying outdoor cooking and eating, and have had several fires to relax around since the work was finished. The wildflower lawn mix that we had seeded back there is starting to sprout those tiny first leaves in many spots. So, things are coming along.

We also bought some annuals for the pots, boxes, and hanging planters. Those will need to get done this week. Got some herbs, also, to go along with the parsley and basil I started from seed. The big garden bed will be fully planted this week, as well. I have a nice big tomato plant (with a bunch of tomatoes already!) in one box, cucumbers in the other, and the big 2×8 raised bed has string beans, carrots, and several types of peppers in it. I want to grab some seed packets for lettuces and other cool weather stuff before all the seeds are put away.

I did pick up a couple perennials to add here and there. A lady’s slipper since it blooms early, another lavender (this one supposedly has red flowers), and a blue-eyed grass. That last one is a member of the iris family, so not a true grass but it’s pretty and is another early bloomer.

As for writing, well- there was some progress on “Deuces Wild”, though there is still a lot of cutting and/or rearranging to be done to clean up the first part of the story. “Turn Table” (I will need to come up with a better title for that one) has a few more scenes added, but I think I am going to be rearranging that one a bit, too. The beginning I have written just gives away too much, too soon, so I will have to make things a bit more puzzling, I think. And then there was the new-shiny. I do hate when that happens, but I know why. When I get stuck in a current project, my brain often decides to simply ignore the problem and slaps me with a new idea. Then the temptation is to set aside the “hard” things, and run with this pretty new one. Which would be okay in some ways, except this (and too often all of the things that come up in this situation) is not something I can even think about selling. It would be a fun little exercise for me alone. It just won’t let me go. So, I have decided that I will allow myself to work on it, but only after the real work of the day is done. That seems to be helping. It’s redirecting the thinking in the right directions. Let’s just hope it continues.

Otherwise, things are going. The weather has cooled off a bit, which is nice as it was getting into high summer temps for a bit and it’s just too soon for that. The BaldMan has one more chemo treatment in two weeks, and then he should be getting back to normal after one last round of knockout days after the treatment. It hits about 4-5 days after and he has 2 or 3 days of pretty miserable feeling. Then it gets better, other than still tiring out easily, just about in time for the next treatment. Once it’s all done and his system can recover without getting trashed again, we should be good. Of course, there will be tests and such to determine how well the radiation and chemo worked, but that’s a bit in the future yet. As of now, his bloodwork has been good, so we are hopeful.

Make it a good week, okay? Drink your water. Eat a vegetable. Get outside and refresh. Be nice to one another.
