I did *something* to my left knee at the end of last week. Not sure what. I don’t remember anything specific, but I woke up on Saturday morning with shooting pains in the shin. I thought that was the issue, but as the morning went on, I realized the actual problem was on the outside/back of the knee, and when it flared, the pain just radiated down the leg. There were points during the day when I could hardly walk. Of course, Saturday was grocery shopping day, so that had to get done. At least, we didn’t need a whole lot, so it was a quick trip. Today, it seems a bit better. Not nearly as painful, and I can walk better. I do have the knee brace on it to give some support, and I plan on taking it easy for the day. Hoping it will be better tomorrow!
I do need to get outside and do some yard work soon. The front hill plantings have taken off so well that I need to trim some of them back at the road. It’s getting hard to see when backing the car out of the driveway! I also need to clean out the tomato and cucumber boxes and put them away for the winter, and pull the bean and pepper plants out of the big raised bed so I can close that up for the winter, too. Of course, the leaves are falling steadily now. We don’t rake or blow them to the curb for the town to pick up like most people. The BaldMan will blow them out of our yard over the hill at the side (which is mostly our property, too) to provide winter cover and shelter for bees and other insects. I mostly leave the ones that fall on the front hill, also. And I don’t cut the shrubs to the ground. I leave seed heads for the birds, and only cut the rest of the stems a bit because some insects will overwinter in those, also. Trying to do what we can for our natives.
I’ve been toying with this year’s Halloween story. It’s been slow going, so far. I had a basic premise idea earlier, but couldn’t quite pull out a story to fit it. I started two others, and scrapped both. Partly because I couldn’t get the original idea out of my head, even without a plot to wrap it in. It gelled this week. It’s going to be another short in my Yo-Yo Files universe, but I think it’s going to work pretty decently. I started it last week and will continue this week. I think it should work.
Otherwise, we are mapping out a day trip to a few local breweries that should be fun. I am still walking the dogs separately to get Tucker up to speed on leash manners and calmness out in the real world. He is still dealing with a bit of “shelter brain” which makes him a bit reactive at times. But if you have ever been in a shelter, you know it is chaos pretty much all the time. It takes a bit for that mindset to settle out. He’s better but it is a process. I am going to start working with the two of them on leash in the yard this week, so I am hoping to be able to walk them together with control at some point. Although, I have to admit that the separate walks have been great for my step counts and heart points!
Drink your water. Eat a vegetable. Get outside and refresh. Be nice to one another.
