Not much exciting going on these days. Fall is definitely in full swing, with leaves falling from the trees here constantly. I have to say, the fall color this year has been less than inspiring. Not sure if it was all the late warm weather or rain that caused the dullness, but something sure did. Even the red maples aren’t as vibrant as usual.
On the productivity front, I got the opening scene for this year’s Halloween story written, and that gave me a clearer picture of where the story is going. Which means it should (*should*) come together pretty quickly now. And that is a good thing, as Halloween is fast approaching!
I did get the veggie garden stuff cleaned up this week. Pulled all the dead and dying leftover plants, collected the last few peppers, and moved the two small boxes to the shed for the winter. Covered the big box with black plastic, and anchored it down. I will need to add a few rocks or maybe bricks to hold the plastic in place a bit better, though. The black will help the soil warm up faster in spring, and with a somewhat short growing season for some veggies here, that’s a good thing. I also pulled down the hanging baskets and deck rail box from the back porch, emptied them, and put them away for the winter. Now, on to the front where I have some planters to empty and put away, and some trimming to do. The shrubs on the hill are getting out of hand and it’s hard to see down the street when pulling out of the driveway. That’s not ideal. Then it will be on to sitting here and planning for next year. I have the two AeroGardens running again in the house, one with basil and the other with thyme. I need to get more parsley seeds. I was sure I had some left, but, well, that goes to show how good my memory is!!
We went to the Ross Park Zoo this week for the Lanterns for Conservation display. It was pretty cool. They use the Chinese lantern idea to make huge displays along the pathways of the zoo. Not sure how long the walk was, but it was over half a mile (there was a sign at that point but not at the end). It was chilly but not too bad. Here are a few pictures (including me with my new angel wings! :D):
I also went with our middle daughter to see the Taylor Swift movie. I am not a big Swiftie. That’s Stephanie, but I did go to the show in Philadelphia with her. We were in nosebleed seats, so there wasn’t a lot of detail from the stage, and we were at an angle to the big screens and that made for some loss of visuals. Seeing it in the movie theater was kind of cool, since you could see a lot more of the onstage stuff, and, of course, better close-ups of Taylor Swift.
That’s about it for now. We are probably going to try to get out to a few local breweries on Thursday. Probably get some dinner at one of the brewpubs and just make a nice day trip out of it. At the end of the week, we are going to Corning, NY to see the Mesmerica show. I think that should be pretty cool, too.
Drink your water. Eat a vegetable. Get outside and refresh. Be nice to one another.
