Things did not go as hoped on Wednesday when I took Lambeau to the vet. She started to take the staples out, but the bottom part of the incision seemed to be pulling a bit still. So, a few are out in the top part, but there is one new staple at the bottom, and he’s stuck in the e-collar for another week. Got some manuka honey to put on it at the recommendation of our vet tech daughter, and that has been great. It looks to be healed well now, and I am almost willing to be positive the staples will all come out this week and he’ll be out of the collar. I have been letting him out of the pen a bit during the day as long as he is quiet and doesn’t try to jump or run. I figure if he’s sleeping on a blanket or pad in the living room, or sleeping on his bed in the pen, it’s not much difference. And he likes being out with us more. When he gets antsy, I give him a treat and put him back in the pen. No sign of pulling on the staples at all, so as long as he behaves, we’re good.
I am starting to pull things together to get my little aquarium set up again. It’s a ten gallon frameless tank, and I will set it up like I did in MA with lots of plants and little fish and shrimp. The fun part is finding a good fish store here. There was one in MA that was a bit of a drive but it was awesome. Nothing fancy- tanks were all on wooden shelf units and it was crowded. Not a lot in supplies, but the basics were there, as was decor like stone and wood. It was run by fish geeks and they knew their stuff. Their fish were always healthy and they stocked stuff you didn’t find anywhere else. Man, I miss Uncle Ned’s!
Anyway, I am looking into stores around here, including those a bit farther out from the immediate area. Heck, we drove an hour+ to get to Ned’s, so going out a bit isn’t a stretch. There is always mail order, but a lot of places won’t ship shrimp since they tend to be sensitive anyway. I’ve got a few places to look at, and with luck, at least one will be a bit more than your usual platies, guppies, and goldfish. That picture on the post is what it looked like in MA.
I am also hoping we get enough decent, not rainy days this week (though it doesn’t currently look good) that I will be able to do some yard cleanup. There are a lot of small tree branches scattered out there. And I need to get my seed starting schedule worked up. Not that I am starting a lot, but I need to know what goes in when.
That’s the scoop from here. Drink your water. Eat a vegetable. Get outside and refresh. Be nice to one another.
