Is it really mid-summer already? It must be, since the Fourth of July was last week. We had family here for some smoked chicken, potato salad, corn salad, and a cherry kuchen provided by the BaldMan’s sister. It was a good dinner on a warm summer day.
I have to say that the neighborhood fireworks were quite tame this year. There were only a few, and they were mainly on the 4th and 5th. Last year, there were much more and they pretty much went on all week. Lambeau is not a fan. He’s really a lot worse in thunderstorms (which we also had last week!) but he does get nervous when he hears fireworks close by. So, having them less often this year was nice.
And then, on Friday, his sister called to say that after she got their mother home on Thursday and settled in her recliner and went to the basement to fold laundry, Grandma decided she had to get up from her chair, and fell. Not surprising, since she is not supposed to get up without assistance, but she does anyway. This time, however, she broke three ribs. Of course, there isn’t much they can do for ribs other than pain management, so she was home after a trip to the doctor’s office walk-in. Sheesh.
On Saturday, we went to the air show at the Binghamton airport. It was fun, although it was hot in the sun, and being an airport, there wasn’t any shade. There were big clouds overhead and that helped some when they blocked the sun. After we looked at the display planes, we found a big tent with tables and chairs to sit under where we could still watch some of the flight demos. There was a very cool F-35 STOVL fighter there and a few smaller stunt planes. The big draw, of course, was the Blue Angels. They were awesome, as always. Some of their patterns have the planes as close as eighteen inches- and at the speeds they fly at, that’s amazing. We’ve seen them before, but always fun to watch again.
Sunday morning, the BaldMan’s sister said Mom wasn’t doing too well, and wanted him to come over. He headed over, but before he got there, his sister let him know they called 911 and were going to take her to the hospital. He came home once they did, because his sister is much better equipped to answer questions since she is there all the time. Looks like low O2 saturation, very likely because she’s not breathing well with the broken ribs. There’s always something!
It’s going to be a busy week. Mostly doctor appointments, but there is something going on every day. Lots of running around in my near future! Drink your water. Eat a vegetable. Get outside and refresh. Be nice to one another.
My latest book is a collection of very short stories, half science fiction and half fantasy, called “Crossed Wires and Other Very Short Stories”. I have also written a few other short pieces, another collection, two novels, and an urban fantasy series. You can find most of them at Smashwords, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and wherever e-books are sold. A few are also available from Amazon in paperback. My novel, “Circle Unbroken” is also on Kindle Unlimited, if that’s your reading preference. You can find out about all of them here.
There are also some stories you can read here on my site, mostly the yearly Halloween short I write, but there are a few others. You can read them from here
