Apparently, allergies are worse this year. It’s not all in your head- well, it sort of is, but not the perception that things are worse this year. This article from May talks a bit about the reality. I’ve noticed it, for sure. I’ve had more trouble with stuffy nose, itchy eyes, and all that stuff for a while now. And the Zyrtec ain’t helping! This last round was a real killer. All of the allergy crap apparently took up residence in my sinuses, and grew itself into a nasty cold/sinus thing that knocked me down for 3 days. I am starting to feel better, but it’s not fully gone.
This week, we are supposed to get some really bad heat with heat indexes over 100. It rained this morning with some thunder and the humidity is just hanging in the air. And that’s not doing my cold any favors, either. I am staying inside as much as I can, believe me.
The danged cold also meant we missed the annual family gathering at Chenango Valley State Park here in southern NY. When I was a kid, lo, those many years ago, my family and one of my uncle’s would go to the park a couple times every summer. Dad and Uncle Tom would golf, and Mom and Aunt Helen would take us kids swimming and just generally running about. Then we’d all have a picnic and head home. We’ve been revisiting that memory for the past several years with my siblings and their families. It was Saturday (the 21st) this year, and I was still really out of it with this cold. I was sorry to miss it!
Other than that, things are moving along here. Still working on clearing out mother-in-laws house so it can go on the market, but that’s approaching the end of the road. We’ve been taking the stuff we want as we can. There’s still some big furniture to move and stuff to unpack. It’s a project when you need to do something like that, for sure.
Drink your water. Eat a vegetable. Get outside and get some air. Be nice to one another.
My latest book is a collection of very short stories, half science fiction and half fantasy, called “Crossed Wires and Other Very Short Stories”. I have also written a few other short pieces, another collection, two novels, and an urban fantasy series. You can find most of them at Smashwords, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and wherever e-books are sold. A few are also available from Amazon in paperback. My novel, “Circle Unbroken” is also on Kindle Unlimited, if that’s your reading preference. You can find out about all of them here.
There are also some stories you can read here on my site, mostly the yearly Halloween short I write, but there are a few others. You can read them from here
