A bit over a week ago, we bought a new car. Yeah, we traded in our Toyota Avalon Hybrid for a shiny new Hyundai Ioniq 9 EV. It’s white, which may be a mistake. Although I do like a white car. It was the last one on the lot and they gave us a pretty decent deal, so we went for it, even though it wasn’t the trim level the BaldMan originally wanted. To be honest and so far, the only thing I really miss is that it doesn’t have the driver seat and mirror memory. It was kind of nice to get in the car and have it automagically adjust for me. It does only take a couple minutes to get it done, so it’s not horrible.
Driving it is good. It’s got a lot of power so when you touch the accelerator, it goes. Took a little bit of getting used to it not starting to roll a bit when you come off the brake like a combustion engine, but a few times driving it and it becomes normal. It has a ton of features, and I really need to go sit in it with the manual at some point to get things set up for me. It does have driver profiles that remember things like your music settings and other stuff. I know there’s other things that can be customized in your profile, but so far, I’ve had places to be so I have just done the minimum to get going.
The BaldMan is finishing up installing the fast charger on the house today (Sunday afternoon). You can charge it on regular household current, but it takes forever. The fast charger is going to be much better. Plus, the electric company has incentive programs for charging off peak and limited time, so we do want to take advantage of that. We also just squeaked in on the tax credit for EVs.
Why did we trade in the Avalon, which we liked a lot? Oh, it had a dent in it, so we needed a new one. No, not really. Sort of. I have wanted to put crates in the car for the dogs for a long time, but that was not happening with the Avalon. Turns out, it’s harder than it seems it should be to find two crates big enough for our dogs that will fit side by side in the back. We may have to rethink that idea or figure out a different configuration.
She pretty, isn’t she?

Drink your water. Eat a vegetable. Get outside and get some air. Be nice to one another.
My latest book is a collection of very short stories, half science fiction and half fantasy, called “Crossed Wires and Other Very Short Stories”. I have also written a few other short pieces, another collection, two novels, and an urban fantasy series. You can find most of them at Smashwords, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and wherever e-books are sold. A few are also available from Amazon in paperback. My novel, “Circle Unbroken” is also on Kindle Unlimited, if that’s your reading preference. You can find out about all of them here.
There are also some stories you can read here on my site, mostly the yearly Halloween short I write, but there are a few others. You can read them from here
