It’s March now, isn’t it? Seems the first part of this year is rolling along awfully quickly. But I am not complaining, since it means we are that much closer to warm weather. We’ve had some decent days in the past week, with more to come later in the week. Today (Sunday) is chilly and we are getting days of rain later in the week, but I’ll take rain and temps in the 50s over snow and below zero windchills any day!
Snow melt in our yard, unfortunately, also means mud season. And that means muddy, messy doggy paws after their runs out there. We’re in the trap them in the mud room (aptly named this time of year!) and wash all the feet when they come in time of year. Ah, well, it’s just another part of having dogs, and they love their play time outside so much. Tucker isn’t too bad. He tends to jump over the worst of the muddy patches. Starr, not so much. She’s like that little kid who just loves to plow through all the puddles, the muddier, the better. It’s fun watching her. Not so much when the paws need cleaning!
And speaking of Tucker, he turned 4 years old last week. He got some puppy ice cream with a birthday candle (and he shared some with his sister). He’s doing well. No health issues so far. His reactivity class is going nicely, and he’s starting to open up a little and isn’t quite so reactive to new things as he used to be. We’ve also been doing some Rally-O exercises in the class, and he seems to really like those.
I am hoping to get a bit of a break in the rain coming in this week so I can start pulling the cardboard off the native plants garden I seeded in the early winter. Most native seeds need a period of moist cold to break dormancy so getting them out there over the winter is necessary. I covered them with the cardboard to keep birds from eating the seeds. But I do have some early spring plants in there, so those will need to be uncovered so they can sprout and grow.
So, really, life goes on. We do what we do, and while the world seems to be blowing up around us, we have to keep moving forward. Do what you can, what you feel you must, but don’t give up. We humans tend to be a resilient lot. Be happy, be kind, and above all, be yourself.
