I had to take one of the foster kitties up to the shelter to see their vet last week. Winston has been losing weight and seemed a bit “off”. Nothing specific, just not himself. The vet initially thought it was hyperthyroid, since weight loss in older cats is often a sign of thyroid issues. They drew blood, and updated his vaccines, and we went home. Got a message on Friday that it is either a kidney infection or kidney disease. I had to take him up there again bright and early on Saturday to get a lesson in giving subcutaneous fluids. He is also on an antibiotic for seven days. Then we will see how he does. If he continues to be okay, then it probably was an infection. If he backslides, then we’re pretty much looking at kidney disease. If it is the disease, while there is no cure, it can be managed. We’ll see how it goes. He’s a very handsome cat- brown tabby Maine Coon, and really, really sweet.
He was pretty easy to pill this morning, but that was the first time. We’ll see how he is tomorrow! The fluids went well, also. One false start, but we got it done quickly and Winston was reasonably cooperative. I hope that keeps up, too!
This week marks the end of October, with Halloween and National Novel Writing Month coming up. I am now waffling on whether I will do NaNo this year or not. I had decided to participate, but now, I am thinking I don’t want to write a whole novel. I have been enjoying the shorter form stuff I’ve been doing lately, and have been thinking I may want to stick with that for a while. I could just attempt 50,000 words of short stories, I suppose. Not exactly according to the “rules” for NaNoWriMo, but it’s a personal challenge, really, and not a judged or regulated thing. Hmmm. I may go with that idea.
The first week of the BaldMan’s new job seems to have gone pretty well. He likes it, and that’s a good thing. I’ve been getting stuff done, and catching up on podcasts and TV shows the he doesn’t watch. I can put the podcasts on the speaker and listen while I’m cleaning or doing dishes or whatever. I am so very far behind!
Whew! (Writing this on Sunday afternoon, before football) Just came in from helping the BaldMan with the car. He went to put some air in the tires, as the low pressure light has been on. Discovered that one of the front tires has a broken valve stem. So, had to pull that tire off and put the spare on. That was far more of a chore than it should have been! The jack did not want to attach to the car, and it slipped a couple times before we got it on there solidly. He did find a place that could replace the valve stem right away. That was good, as driving an hour one way to work and then back tomorrow on the toy spare wasn’t something he was looking forward to. It would, of course, have been better than getting a flat in the middle of highway traffic!
So that was my week. Onward and forward into another, yes?
