You’re having fun, yes, but also when life throws one thing after another your way. And I don’t mean it’s been bad. Just busy. And my office here is still not completely back to normal, but it won’t be for a while. I am not going to put everything back in order until we get the chance to paint in here. That, because of some of the other things going on, will be a little while yet. It’s not terrible, really. I can use my computer and desk, but finding other things can be a bit of a challenge at times. Anyway, on to What’s Been Going On, Part 2!
At the end of August, the BaldMan had some surgery done on his neck. He had four vertebrae that had the spacing narrowed so much nerves were being compressed. He was getting numbness and tingling in his arms and hands constantly. So, the surgeon went in (from the front of his neck!), cleaned up some bone spurs, put in spacers to take the pressure off the nerves, and added a plate to keep it all in place. It worked. He says the symptoms are gone- the numbness and more. He was getting pain in his hands as well as the numbness, but that was put down to arthritis (which he has). But some of it was from the nerve compression, apparently, because he said when he woke up the morning after the surgery, the pain was gone. Yes, he still has the arthritis aches but some of the pain he was feeling was corrected by the surgery. So, all in all, a good thing.
He does have to wear a hard plastic cervical collar when he’s up and about. He has a soft foam one for sleeping. He’s not supposed to move the neck too much, can’t drive, his peripheral vision is impaired by the collar, and he can’t lift much of anything. Which, of course, means a lot more has fallen on my plate. It was expected, but it takes a whole lot of time out of my days, especially when he has doctor appointments and physical therapy. He’s in the collar at least until later this month when he goes to the doctor’s again, and his physical therapist said not to be surprised if he has to wear it at least part time for a bit after that. So, things around here are going to be less than normal for a while. But worth it if the pain and other symptoms are gone for good!
There’s more to come, because, of course, we can’t just let things be at those two bits of fun, now, can we? Next installment (I hope) next week! Until then, drink your water. Eat a vegetable. Get outside and refresh. Be nice to one another.
My latest book is a collection of very short stories, half science fiction and half fantasy, called “Crossed Wires and Other Very Short Stories”. I have also written a few other short pieces, another collection, two novels, and an urban fantasy series. You can find most of them at Smashwords, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and wherever e-books are sold. A few are also available from Amazon in paperback. My novel, “Circle Unbroken” is also on Kindle Unlimited, if that’s your reading preference. You can find out about all of them here.
There are also some stories you can read here on my site, mostly the yearly Halloween short I write, but there are a few others. You can read them from here

Glad the surgery helped.
