Today is a holiday in the USA. It is Independence Day, more familiarly known as the Fourth of July. It is the day we here in the states commemorate our separation from Great Britain and the forming of our own nation.
We’ve come a long way since those days in the 1700s. We’ve seen a lot, we’ve done a lot, we’ve endured. Good and bad, up and down. Today is the day to think about all of it, and maybe give some thought to where we should go from here.
And that’s all I’m going to say about that. If you are celebrating today, enjoy! If you are among those who must work, especially our first responders, please know there are those who appreciate your sacrifices and your service. If you must celebrate with fireworks, please be at least a bit considerate of those, both human and animal, that are not as enamored as you are with the noise and flash. I’m not trying to squash anyone’s fun, but do stay within your area’s legal restrictions. If that includes a ban on fireworks, do uphold it. There are plenty of public displays you can attend. And if you are going to do your own show, do be careful. Things that explode violently are not to be toyed with.
Go, now. Go and have fun with your friends and family. Take the boat out on the lake. Have a picnic in a park. Or in your backyard. Eat. Drink (responsibly). Be merry. Enjoy the summer, even if it is hotter than you-know-where in many places. We need these moments of joy and fun. Embrace.
Reminder- All my fiction is on sale at Smashwords until the end of the month. The short stuff is even free! A novel and a collection of short stories are half price. It’s sci-fi, fantasy, and urban fantasy. If that’s your thing, I’d appreciate your checking them out. If it’s not your usual thing, check them out, anyway. You never know- something might strike your fancy. As always, if you do purchase and read, a review is appreciated! Many, many thanks!
