Monday Musings: Here Comes Peter Cottontail

Easter is upon us. This coming Sunday, in fact. I always think of Easter as the beginning of Spring. I suppose it’s partly because at the time I grew up, Easter was when you got your new Spring dress, shoes, and coat. Oh, and the hat. Can’t forget the hat! Things have changed now and while some still do the new Easter outfit, it’s not such a big deal. But the perception of Easter Sunday as real Spring remains.

We are having Easter dinner this year on Good Friday. The BaldMan’s parents will be visiting and that’s the day that works best for the kids to be here. The idea of the big dinner, complete with meat, is not an easy one for the older folk to wrap their heads around, since it is normally a meatless day. But I really don’t think God will mind, since it means getting to see the grandchildren and great-grandchild, right?

The weather has been really nice the last couple days. Warm and at least partly sunny. The spinach in the raised garden box is starting to grow, and I will plant more cool weather greens this week. I have seeds sprouting in the basement for transplanting later, also. Enclosing the plant stand and putting in the heat mats has helped a lot.

The aquarium is starting to look really good now. It seems to have gotten over its new tank syndrome and is running well. The plants are growing and green, the fish look healthy and happy, and it is fun to look at now. Water parameters are stable. I will be thinking about adding some more cardinal tetras soon. I do have some nuisance snails (pond snails, most likely) that probably came in on some of the plants, but so far, manually removing the small ones as I see them has been keeping them in check. I don’t want to have to put in something to eat them since I don’t want to lose my Nerites. Those are the good snails!

I’m still plugging along on the third Yo-Yo Files story. I had an AH-HA moment regarding the folklore elements I want to use in this one, so that should help in getting things moving a bit faster. I have also had one grandson ask if I could write an action-adventure story for him. Hmmm. Middle grade is not my specialty, but I have been doing some research and, well, we’ll see. Never say never, right?

And that’s all the news that’s fit to type for now. Have a good week, and if you celebrate Easter or Passover, enjoy your holidays!
