Well, more like fasting food. We started intermittent fasting last week. This past year of being locked down and hunkering inside has not done good things for my weight. Our doctor recommended that the BaldMan try the fasting method and so I am going to try it, also. For those who may not be familiar, it involves eating only during a specific time window in your day, and fasting the rest of the time. During the fasting hours, you can have water, diet soda (blech!), or black coffee or tea. Nothing with carbs or significant calories. The idea is that your body will get to a point during the fasting hours where it needs more energy than the food you have eaten provides, so it will start burning fat reserves to provide that energy. It is supposed to have other health benefits, as well.
So, how’s it going? Well, we only started last week, so it’s a bit early to tell how well it will work. I have lost a little, so that’s at least a start. We are doing an 8 hour eating window and 16 hours of fasting. It hasn’t been too bad so far. I am hungry this morning, but nothing too dire. It does mean we don’t get breakfast as such since our end of fast time is around 1 PM. Lunch is bit bigger than normal because of that. And then a few snacks spread out over the afternoon, and dinner before the next fasting cycle begins. So far, the worst thing is not having a snack while watching TV. That’s been a habit for so long, I do miss it. Not that I am all that hungry, it’s just that I am used to having that bit of something to eat later at night. We’ll see how this goes over the long run.
I have some cool weather things starting to grow in the big garden box, and have tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and some herbs and flowers started in the basement. I am not sure about some of the perennials I planted last year in the small flower garden I put in. One is definitely growing but not the others. I just hope they are slower starting because they are summer bloomers. I do need to do some work on it, so if I have to add more, I will. The hops have sprouted again, surviving another winter in their containers. Yay! And I bought a planter of tulips because I wanted some pretty things in here and I will plant those bulbs outside, also. It’s good to see things growing again!
I guess that’s about all for today! Have you seen signs of Spring in your neck of the woods?
