Well, not “done” as in finished and ready to go. But as of today, the first drafts of all the stories for my very short story collection are written. Of course, first drafts means there is still a lot of work to be done, but this first phase is always a relief to have behind me. Twenty-four very short tales, none more than 2K words. Twelve sci-fi and twelve fantasy. It took a very long time, with all the COVID related ups and downs we all had to deal with over the past year plus. And it feels good to have put that final period on that last story.
So, now, it is on to first revisions and edits. Then I will be sending them off to readers to get some feedback. Another round of revising and editing. Oh, and little things like cover design and stuff. I suppose I should settle on a title for the collection, also, huh? That’s been giving me headaches and I have been shoving it aside while I worked on the stories themselves. But I suppose I am going to have to think about it now.
I haven’t decided on a release time frame yet. I am going to finish this vacation week, and then we are closing on our new house. And that means I have to start really thinking about packing and moving. A lot is going on, so I will have to take some time to sit down and try to put together a reasonable schedule.
Anyway, it feels good to have hit this milestone!
