Time for the hibiscus in the header picture to come inside. I bought it as a small, skinny thing the year we moved from NH to MA, and it’s been with me since. I wasn’t sure how it was going to fare with the move here to NY, since it had to ride on the moving truck. It’s done pretty well. Slow growing this summer, but it did bloom several times, and I see a couple buds on it still. Hibiscus are tropical, so it would not survive the winter, but I have been giving it a nice trim and bringing it indoors every winter and it has done pretty decently. Nights are getting colder now, so it will come inside again,
I also planned out a new garden bed for next year. It won’t be one that will be seen by passersby, but it’s going along the house where we can get some water in the basement when we get heavy rain. Putting the gutter guards on may have done some good, also. We got pretty good rain yesterday and nothing inside. That area along the house does get some puddling of water and planting along the foundation should help keep the soil loose and allow water to soak down rather than into the basement. It will be perennials and shade loving ones at that, since it is on the far side of the house that doesn’t get much sun anyway, and it is overshadowed by tall trees. So, hostas and ferns and a few flowering plants that can tolerate shade.
I think I am going to do NaNoWriMo this year. Sort of. I don’t have anything fully planned out, but I did get an idea and a scene or two pop into my brain this week. I will just go with that and see what happens. If it doesn’t go anywhere, well, it won’t be the first NaNo that I haven’t hit 50k.
It’s going to start getting chillier here this week. Good thing I started getting sweaters and long sleeves out. I think I may need them. I do have to say this has been a kind of yucky autumn. Not only has the weather been far too warm and humid, but even the trees aren’t showing a lot of real color. A good portion of them have had leaves just turn brown and fall without the display of fall color.
Onward to a new week! Make it a good one!

Thought this year I’d finally do the Nano but finishing up current projects will keep me going into mid-November.
Congratulations in the hibiscus. That’s impressive.

I wasn’t sure about NaNo this year. Things were so unsettled for so long, I didn’t get anything planned. And the short short story project should be out to beta by then so I think NaNo should get me concentrating on something new rather than fretting about getting feedback on the shorts. The hibiscus has such pretty flowers, I didn’t want to just let it die. I am glad it’s survived so long.
